NO FILMS TO COST ABOVE 3.5 CRORES IN KERALA

In a bid to overcome the "financial crisis" that has hit the Malayalam film industry, the Film Employees Federation (FEFKA) and the Kerala. Film Producers Association has decided that films should restrict themselves to a budget of 3.5 crores. In the meeting held on Monday which was attended by some of the biggest names of the industry, a cost-cutting plan was devised. It was decided that shooting of a film should be completed in 45 days and also to introduce restriction on the use of mobile phones by the actors during the shooting of film as it delays the schedule, said industry sources.

A meeting with the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) will be held on August 25 to discuss a pay-cut for the actors. FEFKA General Secretary B Unnikrishnan and President Siby Malayil, Directors Joshy, Shaji Kailas, Kamal, K Madhu, Sathyan Anthikkad and Producers Association President K Sureshkumar and General Secretary Sabu Cherian attended the meeting. Meanwhile, MACTA Federation, a confederation of 19 trade unions in the film industry, in a release alleged that the joint meeting of the producers and directors was a mere eyewash to cheat the public and film workers.
